Booking Photos After Release

A mugshot, or booking photo, is part of the arrest and booking record. In Houston County, the public booking and release interface is the Southern Software Citizen Connect page used by the Houston County Sheriff's Office. The research found booking-card styling and JavaScript references to booking-mugshot images and a no-mugshot fallback. That supports a careful statement: public booking or release results may show a mugshot when the system has one available, but not every result will display a photo.

A booking photo is not the same as a conviction record. The court case controls disposition, dismissal, plea, sentence, probation, or time-served entries. A person may have a booking photo and later have a charge dismissed, reduced, expunged, or resolved in a way that changes how the record should be interpreted. Always read the mugshot with the jail release record and the Houston County court case.

Where Release Mugshots Appear

Houston County's official photo path is not a separate mugshot gallery. It is the booking card or release-result context inside Citizen Connect when a photo is available, plus records requests for older or missing records. The research did not confirm an official Houston County sheriff mobile app release or mugshot feed. That matters because many counties use app vendors, but this Houston County build should not claim an app unless a later source confirms one.

Citizen Connect Photo Path

Citizen Connect is the primary official online source found in the research. The page has tabs for Current Confinements, Admits by Date Range, Releases by Date Range, Name, Charges, and Arresting Agency. The Releases by Date Range tab has custom dates, Last 24 hours, and Last 7 days options. Result-card source references include booking number, booking mugshot, booking details, charges section, charge agency, bond information, bond amount, and a released-status badge.

Use "may show" for each photo or field because live results can vary. A no-mugshot image means the public card is designed to handle missing photos; it does not prove that no booking photograph ever existed. A missing online photo may be due to system limitations, record timing, restrictions, an older booking, or correction/expungement effects.

Request a Booking Photo

For a released person whose photo no longer appears online, or whose booking is outside the convenient recent-release window, contact the Houston County Sheriff's Office. The research did not locate a standalone online sheriff public-records form. 1. Identify the person by full name and, when lawful and known, date of birth.
2. Include the booking number if the Citizen Connect result shows one.
3. Give the approximate booking date and release date range.
4. Ask for a public-records request for booking photo and release record.
5. Ask whether the record is held by jail administration, sheriff records, the court, ADOC, or another agency.
6. Do not request juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, victim, social security, or other protected information.

Alabama's public-records baseline is Ala. Code Sections 36-12-40 and 36-12-41, which address inspection/copying of public records and copies upon request and payment of fees. Public-records access is not unlimited, and the agency may apply procedures, fees, and exemptions.

ADOC and State Photos

If the Houston County booking became a state-prison sentence, the Alabama Department of Corrections may be the better photo and custody source while the person is currently in ADOC custody. ADOC's search is for current Alabama inmates and may show an offender photo along with sentence and release fields. It is not a historical online archive of released state prisoners, and ADOC states that historical data is not available online through the inmate search.

For older state-prison records, use ADOC Form 023-A and the Public Records Coordinator at public.records@doc.alabama.gov or 334-353-3883. Current form instructions state a non-refundable $20 processing fee, and ADOC may provide advance notice of additional fees for proper requests. Ask for the public records tied to the specific state custody event, not a generic county mugshot.

News and Third-Party Mirrors

Dothan Police Department arrest news and Houston County law-enforcement releases may include arrest facts or booking-related images in some cases. Dothan adult arrestees are commonly described as booked into Houston County Jail, so a Dothan arrest post should be reconciled with the county jail release search and the court case. Juvenile placements, including references to the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center, are not adult public release-list material.

Third-party mugshot sites and aggregators may mirror public jail data, but they are not official release-confirmation sources. Do not treat a third-party page as the final answer if it conflicts with the Houston County sheriff, the Houston County Circuit Clerk, ADOC, parole records, BOP, ICE, or another responsible agency. Official sources and public-records processes should control over commercial mugshot-publishing or pay-to-remove pages.

If an outside image appears after the official source has changed, preserve the official record path first: the sheriff release entry, the court disposition, any ADOC custody record, and any expungement or correction order. Those records give a removal or correction request a concrete basis.

Public Records and Expungement

Alabama public-records law supports inspection and copying of public records subject to exceptions. The Alabama League of Municipalities public-records guide cited in the research states that arrest information including a jailer's logbook is public record and that a mugshot is a public record. It also explains that expungement can require expunging identification information, including booking photographs, under Section 41-9-625. ALEA's expungement page states that expungements are granted by an Alabama court, not by ALEA itself.

No Alabama-specific broad anti-pay-to-remove commercial mugshot statute was confirmed in the source sweep. The strongest official route is the court's expungement order, a correction request to the agency holding the record, and the relevant public-records process. Third-party sites may have their own takedown procedures, but an agency cannot promise what every outside website will do.

Correcting a Photo Problem

The right correction path depends on which agency owns the record. A Houston County Citizen Connect photo or booking entry should start with the Houston County Sheriff's records or jail contacts. A state prison photo should use ADOC records. A criminal-history identification issue or expungement effect may involve ALEA and the court order. A court disposition problem should be checked through the Houston County Circuit Clerk and Alacourt / Just One Look.

When asking for a correction, include the booking number, case number, date range, and the exact issue. For example, state whether the photo is connected to the wrong person, the record has been expunged, the disposition is missing, or a third-party page is showing outdated information. Keep the request focused on official records and public correction channels.
